Large Navy Jeanann Minaret

The piece consists of a polished and shiny iron cylindrical structure and has a candle holder inside it. The structure is punctuated by circular tape-shaped holes around the upper part of the cylinder. In addition, the dotted tapes draw arches stretched along the cylinder body that ends with a dome on which a golden crescent is placed. The piece is fully based on three spherical bases. It serves two ends; The first is an aesthetic as a decor piece inspired by Islamic architecture as well as a functional end, as it can be used as a candle holder and source of dim lighting at home. The design allows the candle light to be emitted through the dotted tapes in the cylinder body.

 

The design mimics an important element of Islamic architecture, the minaret or “Mea’thana”, which usually takes the form of a long and high tower, as well as the lighthouse found in other types of ancient architectural patterns. The minaret gains its importance from being the element that has been used to broadcast the call for prayer five times a day. Minarets were also closely associated with mosques, as they both complement each integrate each other’s functions. The minarets were lit with lamps at night to inform those who couldn’t hear the prayer call because of the distance about prayer times.
